It involved a low level sorcerer who was tasked with assassinating a rogue wizard. The rogue was a 33rd level which was the height of learning and was comparable to a low level deity, needless to say, it was an intriguing book. The bad guys name started with an M. It was not murmandamus. He was also a warrior wizard. Didnít have to rely on his magic even though he was so powerful. Any ideas?

The Farseer Trilogy

Assassin's Apprentice

Edit: I just did a google search... Picked the best fit. Likely not what you are looking for. But with just that to go on... I can tell you I didn't read it, and that's how much time I'm willing to spend on it.

Assassin's Apprentice is a great book, but it's definitely not the one he's looking for.

Now I want to look into Assassin's Apprentice, and the book in the original post if anyone ever figures it out.

I remember that he was a 7th level with below average magical ability. He favored a bow as his weapon of choice. He was caught and then recruited by the bad guy. He had existential issues (bad guy was crazy but he could relate to him)

Was a good book. Definately not assassin apprentice . Most likely written in the early 80ís.

Steven Brustís Vlad Taltos ???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jhereg_(novel)

The novel opens with a brief history of Vlad Taltos and a description of how he acquired his jhereg familiar, Loiosh. Despite being an Easterner in the Dragaeran city of Adrilankha, Vlad is a minor boss in the criminal activities of the Jhereg Organization. One day he is approached by the Demon, an extremely powerful member of the Organization's ruling Council, and offered an assassination job with a staggeringly large reward. The contract is to kill another Jhereg crime lord, Mellar, who has absconded with a fortune from the Jhereg treasury. Vlad accepts, despite the very short time limit.

Edit: More information...More time spent. I don't know the levels of the characters... But the bad guy's name starts with "M"... Old boy is a Warrior/Sorcerer, sent to kill other head honcho... ... Books were written in the 80's.

Edit: I've read the opening chapter to this book. I think I might actually go ahead and buy it. So... Thank you for the question, even if I got the answer wrong.

Well... If you can think of more info... let me know... This lead me down a decent path.

Maybe I'll find more authors in the search.

Brust took inspiration from Roger Zelazny. Two of the best books I've read were by him. Lord of Light and Dilvish the damned.
